Day Trip to Ericeira & Surf Class

Our buddies took our students to Ericeira, a lovely fisherman village 45 minutes away from Lisbon, also very famous for its surf spots. They had the chance to do a local guided tour around the village and have a true surf experience!

Tile Workshop

IMG_4317

Hey guys!

Can you guess what our students are doing in this picture? No, we did not go back to the baroque times in Lisbon. These actually represent Invitation Figures (Figuras de Convite) used in the 17th century to welcome people in their homes that we found while visiting the Tile Museum.

Tile Museum

This is one of our most famous and visited museums, located inside an old Convent. It's a great experience to learn about how tiles are made and how they've been used for centuries in our visual culture.

Herdade do Esporão

After a 2-hour drive from Lisbon, we arrived at Herdade do Esporão, the biggest vineyard of Portugal, where we had the opportunity to have an amazing Portuguese lunch with an olive oil tasting included.

The Bones Chapel

The Chapel of Bones is one of the best known monuments in Évora. It is a small chapel located next to the entrance of the Church of St. Francis. The Chapel gets its name from the interior walls being covered and decorated with human skulls and bones.

Orientation

All the students arrived in Lisbon on January 25th and after meeting their hosts and having a good night's rest, we started to get to know the city on the next day.

Students had the opportunity to meet their CIEE Buddies during a nice lunch and then we all went for a walking tour around the city center.

Culture also means food!

Since Portugal is a country with a strong food culture, we decided to show our students the video Anthony Bourdain No Reservations in Lisbon. We had the chance to talk about it after and we all shared some more about our cultural differences. It was a great way for them to learn a bit more about our Portuguese Culture. We absolutely loved it!

 7 billion of others

The last part of our cultural adaptation in Lisbon was a visit to a global exhibition that is being currently hosted in Lisbon.

2_100_14_izqksatutw

"7 billion of Others" was created in 2003, and shows the testimonies of more than 6,000 people from 84 countries, obtained through 45 questions, all the same, about 30 universal themes - family, love, death, forgiveness, climate, nature, meaning of life, challenges or childhood dreams - that help us find what separates us, but above all what unites us.
