Alentejo

South of Lisbon’s river, the Tagus/Tejo, there is a region called Alentejo. Houses are whitewashed with blue around doors and windows.

There are also Roman temples, gothic cathedrals (Evora) and castles (Arraiolos) to be visited.

Oceanario

In 1998 Lisbon hosted a world fair themed around water. A great aquarium – the Oceanario (https://www.oceanario.pt/) – was built then and today it is one of our favorite attractions. “Big ugly fish” (picture bellow) is probably our favorite but the anemones are pretty cool too.
